Normally our idols aren’t golden cows (Exodus 32), but we have them. Merriam-Webster says that an idol is an object that is worshiped as a god. We don’t always think of spending excess amounts of time on our cell phones as worship, but if we put anything before God it is our idol. We all have different idols in our lives. Idols can be phones, internet, TV, food, exercise, a significant other, or even ourselves.
The best way to make sure that we don’t have idols in our lives is to completely live for God.
John 15:7 says “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
God knows the desires of your heart, and it is a PROMISE from God that if you abide in Him it’ll be done. God is the one who PUT the desires in your heart, so of course He wants them to come true, but we have to be living for Him for those desires to come to pass in His will.
The thing is, when you completely abide in God, your desires line up with God’s desires for you. When you abide in God, you want nothing but God’s desires for your life anyway. No idol can make you as happy as God’s will for your life.
“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11
