“I love someone else.”
People say mean things. That’s part of life. People hurt us, and that hurt turns into anger and bitterness. A problem in our society is that when all of these things happen, we think we have every right to hold a grudge. Anger is an understandable reaction to pain, but do we really have any RIGHT to hold a grudge for somebody treating us wrong?
Sin entered the world years ago when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. From then on we were no longer perfect. Starting with Cain and Able, each of us were born into sin. The part that really stinks is that we can’t just blame the devil. Yes, the devil tempted Eve, but Eve gave in. We give into sin every day. Here’s something else that stinks, every time we sin God can’t look at us. Habakkuk 1:13 says that God’s eyes are so pure that He can’t look at wickedness.
Even though God gets so hurt by us that He can’t even look at us during our sin, He forgives us and loves us. We literally put His Son on the Cross to die because we hurt God over and over again. So, why do WE get to hold a grudge because somebody hurt us once?
Matthew 6:14-15 says “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your father forgive your trespasses.”
We need to forgive each other for more than one reason. It hurts us more than the other person when we don’t. I encourage you to forgive. Ask God for help, He will. He hasn’t given us any instructions that we can’t follow.
